Image to SVG for Cricut — Free Cut File Converter
Make an SVG cut file from any picture for your Cricut or Silhouette. The image is traced into clean, closed outlines — one layer per colour for layered vinyl and HTV, or a single black & white layer for decals and stencils — with the background removed so there’s no white box to weed. Free, no signup, and nothing is uploaded.
Privacy First
Your image never leaves your device. All conversion happens locally in your browser using WebAssembly — no server, no storage, no tracking.
Instant Results
No waiting for server processing. Convert any image to SVG in seconds, right in your browser. Works offline after first load.
Best For
Logos, icons, clipart, line art, flat illustrations, signatures, and simple graphics. Works best with high-contrast images.
Scalable Output
SVG files scale to any size without quality loss. Perfect for web, print, t-shirts, laser cutting, and more.
Pick the right setting for your project
- Single-colour decal, stencil or HTV: Line art (black & white) — one clean cut layer.
- Layered vinyl or layered HTV: Logo & icon with 2–6 colours — each colour becomes its own layer in Design Space.
- Pen, foil or engraving tools: Outline — just the edges.
- Leave Remove background colour on so the background doesn’t become an extra shape to cut.
How to upload the SVG to Cricut Design Space
- Download the SVG from the converter above.
- In Design Space, click Upload, then Upload Image, and choose the SVG.
- Click Upload, select the image and Add to Canvas. Each colour arrives as its own layer, ready to size and cut.
Silhouette Studio: opening SVG needs Designer Edition or higher. On the free Basic Edition, download DXF from the format menu instead — Basic opens DXF files.

How to Convert PNG to Vector (SVG) — Step by Step
- Upload your PNG. Drop a PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP or WebP into the converter above. A PNG with a transparent or plain white background gives the cleanest vector file.
- Check the automatic result. The converter opens full screen, detects the right style (Logo & icon, Illustration, Photo art, Line art or Outline) and traces it straight away. Drag the before/after slider and zoom in to see the difference.
- Fine-tune if needed. Choose how many Colours (2–24), click a swatch to leave a colour out, raise Detail to keep small features and Smoothness for rounder curves, or tick Remove background colour.
- Download your vector. Choose SVG, PDF, EPS or DXF next to the Download button — free, no watermark, ready for Illustrator, Inkscape, Figma, Cricut or a laser cutter — or click Edit paths to open it in the free vector editor.
Tips for the best PNG to vector result
- Logos & icons: the Logo & icon style keeps only the real brand colours and drops the soft edge colours around them. Fewer colours = smaller, cleaner SVG.
- Signatures & line art: Black & white or Outline, with Smoothness around 6–8; move Threshold if thin lines break up.
- Flat illustrations: Colour mode with 8–16 colours. Neighbouring colours overlap slightly, so there are no white cracks between shapes.
- Photos: expect a stylised, posterised look — vectors are built from flat shapes, not pixels.
- Blurry or tiny PNGs: upscale first with the free image upscaler, then convert.

PNG to SVG, PDF, EPS or DXF — which vector file do you need?
| Format | Best for | Opens in |
|---|---|---|
| SVG | Websites, icons, logos, Cricut and Silhouette cutting | Browsers, Figma, Canva, Illustrator, Inkscape, Cricut Design Space |
| Printing, sharing with print shops, documents | Any PDF viewer, Illustrator, Affinity Designer, InDesign | |
| EPS | Print and design workflows that ask for EPS, stock sites | Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, Affinity Designer |
| DXF | Laser cutting, CNC, vinyl plotters and CAD | LightBurn, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Inkscape |
All four are made from the same traced shapes, so they look identical. Converting a JPG? It works exactly the same way — the result is a true vector, not a picture inside a file.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I make an SVG for Cricut from a picture?
- Drop the picture above, choose Line art for a single-colour cut or Logo for colour layers, and click Download SVG. Then upload it in Cricut Design Space with Upload › Upload Image.
- Why is there a white box around my design?
- That is the image background being traced as a shape. Keep Remove background colour switched on, or choose Line art, and the background won’t be part of the cut file.
- Can I use the file in Silhouette Studio?
- Yes. Silhouette Studio Designer Edition opens SVG. The free Basic Edition doesn’t open SVG, so choose DXF in the download menu — Basic Edition can open DXF.
- How do I get separate layers for each colour?
- Use the Logo or Illustration setting and set the number of colours you want. Each colour is saved as its own shape, which Design Space shows as separate layers.
- Are the outlines closed for cutting?
- Yes. Every shape is traced as a closed outline, so the machine cuts it cleanly.
- Is it free and private?
- Yes. It is free with no signup or watermark, and the picture never leaves your browser.
